Order of play for San Diego WTA and Predictions
The WTA 500 event is in its round of 32. In the early hours of today Danielle Collins(WTA:19) defeated US-Open semi finalist Caroline Garcia in two sets to qualify for the round of 16. Matches will continue today and the Match Between Bianca Andreescu (WTA: 52) and Liudmia Samsonova (WTA:23) has started.
Kudermetova has withdrawn from the tournament.
Matches will continue today at 19:30 GMT, Greek ace Maria Sakkari (WTA:7) battles Donna Vekic (WTA:77). Maria reached the final of the Parma WTA but she suffered an early loss at the Ostrava open in Czech, she will hope to get things back on track when she plays later in the day.
Cezch's Karolina Pliskova (WTA:22) will face Caroline Dolehinde( WTA:181) at 21:00 GMT.
Solane Stephens who was meant to face Kudermetova will now face lucky loser Jil Teichmann at 21:00 GMT. Stephens had a great time in Italy she manged to win a particular match there despite a bee sting, although she lost in the round of 16, she showed a good fighting spirit, we expect her to win against Teichmann who is only lucky to be playing at this stage despite losing in her final qualifying match.
Today's matches will be brought to an end when last year's US Open finalist Leylah Fernandez (WTA:39) battles Russia's Daria Kasatkina, Kasatkina played last weekend and reached the last 16 of the Ostrava open before losing out to fellow Russian Alexandrova. Fernandez has not played any competitive match since the US Open, She'll have more to do if she wants to beat Kasatkina but after Collins made an easy work over Garcia I think anything is possible for Fernandez but she has to play very well.
Elena Rybakina (WTA:26) who had a great time in Czech (before losing in the semis to eventual winner Krejcikova in three sets) will face Spain's Garbine Muguruza (WTA:13), Muguruza herself had a hard time in tokyo losing in the second round, she'll hope to avoid losing again when she plays tomorrow.
Coco Guaff (WTA:8) will face fellow countrywoman Robin Montgomery (WTA:294). Coco Guaff (18 years) should make an easy work of Montgomery who is also a teenager, we expect an intresting match up but I don't see Montgomery mounting any serious challenge to the Roland Garos 2022 finalist, this match comes up tomorrow.
Predictions
Kasatkina to beat Fernandez in three sets
Stephens winning in two straight sets
Pliskova to win
Sakkari to win in three sets
Rybakina to win in three sets
Coco Guaff breaking Montogomery multiple times to win in two straight sets
I want Coco Guaff to win
