GIJON ATP (Results & Oreder of Play)
Earlier today Francisceo Cerundolo defeated Manuel Guinard in two sets. Andy Murray came back from a 6 2 loss in the first set to beat Pedro Cachin 6 2 5 7 6 7 (3 7) in three sets. Murray got a lot of break points in the second set before breaking Cachin to win 7-5, in the third set after going down 3-2 he broke Cachin again, during the tie-break he got the first four points and won up to 6 1 before Cachin got two more points. Murray's defense put him through as he won a point out of nowhere to claim the Victory. Murray is slowly and gradually coming back to his best, his defense(the best part of his game) is one of the best on the tour.
#1 seed Andrey Rublev defeated high serving Ilya Nashaka 6 3 5 7 6 4 to progress to the quarter final stages winning 81% of his first serve and won about 41% of the return points, he also won 88% of his service game to seal the victory. Later in that day, Sebastian Korda defeated Roberto Agut 5 7 6 4 6 4 setting a match up against Murray in the process.
Play will continue today at 11:00 GMT Argentine Francisco Cerundolo (ATP:29) will battle Austrian Dominic Thiem (ATP:165), Thiem is still gathering pace as he keeps on participating in ATP 250 events, part of the work to get him back to full fitness. He's gradually getting it but tomorrow's game might come to quick for him. Creundolo also dropped from, getting knocked out in the first round of most tournaments on hard court this summer, he is very happy to be in the quarters of this one, it will be hard for him to progress to the semis facing a rejuvenating Thiem. I think Thiem might win in three sets.
Rublev will face a bit of strong Opposition when he battles in form American Tommy Paul (ATP:30) at 12:30 GMT, Rublev (ATP:9) if he can avoid mistakes has an high chance of beating Tommy Paul. Paul has a lot of time to prepare for this game as he did not play yesterday, he should be at full fitness and he will pose a whole lot of challenges for Rublev but considering Rublev's qualtites he should be able to beat Tommy Paul in three sets, I won't be surprised if Tommy Paul manages to win.
#2 seed of the tournament Pablo Carreno-Busta (ATP:15) will face France's Arthur Rinderknech (ATP:56) at 15:30 GMT, we expect Busta to win given his higher ranking but Rinderknech has a bit of chance too. Carreno-Busta is backed by the bookers with a 1.38 odd.
Murray plays Sebastian Korda, interestingly Korda is one place ahead of Murray in the ATP Rankings 47 to 48. Korda has been known for surprises and Murray will have to be at is best as they battle each other for a spot in the semis by 17:00 GMT.
