Felix wins the Basel ATP Title
Felix made it three titles in three weeks today by defeating Holger Rune in two straight sets under two hours 6-3, 7-5. He now has four titles in his tennis career and has won the last three finals he has played in, previously losing eight finals before winning his first ATP title earlier this year.
A transformating season for Felix, he pushed Nadal to five sets in Roland Garros, won his first ATP title before that and now he has completed a natural Hattrick of titles today, he won the Florence and Antwerp ( ATP-250 events) last two weeks, won the Basel open ( ATP-500 event) today. He has joined Andy Murray and Casper Rudd in the most recent players to win three events in three weeks. Murray did it in 2011 while Rudd did that last year.
"It's been an amazing week," Auger Aliassime said after the match. "Once again in the final, not getting broken all week (It's been) a long year, a long stretch of wins, and it's not over. So hopefully I can keep going, but right now I'm feeling all the good emotions that come with winning a tournament. It's amazing."
Felix serves helped him a lot in this tournament, he hit 11 aces today alone! He saved all the break points he faced today, refusing to be broken for the 4th match this week. He also won 65% of his second serve, he converted two of the five break chances he had, won all his service games and 13 out of the 21 games played in the match.
He has now moved Rublev in the race to qualify for the ATP finals starting on the 13th of November. He still has to play well in the Paris Masters to seal his qualification.
Wasn't an easy tournament for Felix as he had to defeat some though opponents prior to playing today, he defeated Huesler, Kecmanovic, Bublik and World No 1 Carlos Alcaraz to reach the final.
Rune's work must not be overlooked also as he defeated De Minaur, Ugo Humbert, Arthur Rinderknech and Roberto Bautista-Agut all in two sets to reach the final! His hard work has paid off and now he's currently 18th on the live ATP rankings.
