Eintracht Frankfurt vs Dortmund Match Preview and Prediction

Frankfurt kept their hopes of reaching the UEFA Champions League (UCL) knockout phase alive with a 2-1 win vs Marseille on Wednesday, their third consecutive triumph across all competitions. Their attention will now switch back to the Bundesliga, via a clash with fellow top-four contenders Dortmund, which could end with the Eagles starting November four points clear of BVB in the UCL qualification zone.

Success may not come easy, but Frankfurt's return of three home league wins from their last five starts, following August's 6-1 drubbing against Bayern (D1, L1) must be encouraging. That trio of triumphs all saw the Europa League holders win both halves, and with at least two different men scoring from open play in all of them, Oliver Glasner's charges can again present a danger all over the park.

Dortmund secured progression to the UCL knockouts during the week after drawing 0-0 vs Man City, with Gregor Kobel's first penalty save in 11 months being the big highlight. He may be key once again, with Dortmund at risk of finishing October outside the top six something they've not endured since 2014/15, when ultimately suffering a decade worst finish of seventh place.

That forgettable campaign still marks Dortmund's latest run of four straight Bundesliga away losses, but they risk matching it here. Yet, they have fond memories of last season's away H2H, coming from 2-0 down at half-time to win 3-2 - in a game that also forms part of an extensive streak where none of Dortmund's previous 51 Bundesliga road trips have ended goalless!

Players to watch: As well as possessing a 100% win-rate across all 11 competitive goalscoring appearances since 2021/22, Jesper Lindstrøm registered the first German top-flight brace of his career in Frankfurt's recent 3-1 win at Monchengladbach. Also at the double in his side's latest league win, Dortmund star Jude Bellingham equalised in last season's corresponding H2H.

Hot stat: Ahead of this round, Frankfurt boasted a league-high number of home goals netted between the 61st-75th minute (five) as well as the best goal difference (+5) in that period.

Fottennis Prediction: Eintracht Frankfurt 2 Dortmund 2
