WTA Finals: Iga Swiatek vs Daria Kasatkina Match Preview
The WTA finals continues today, Iga Swiatek will face Daria Kasatkina by 00:00 GMT.
Fottennis gives you the prediction of this particular match.
Iga Swiatek is back in the WTA Finals for the second. time after failing to go beyond the round-robin stage last year. She lost to Maria Sakkari and Aryna Sabalenka to kick off her 2021 appearance in Guadalajara and picked up a consolation win against Paula Badosa to end her campaign.
She returns to the championships after utterly dominating the season. The world no. 1 has played 16 tournaments and won titles in half, lifting as many titles in 2022 as the rest of the field combined. She easily leads the tour in match wins (64), hard-court wins (44) and three-set wins (16-4).
She is currently on an 11-match winning streak in the US. After winning her maiden hard-court major at the US Open and finishing runner-up in Ostrava, the Pole returned to America for a 11th career title in San Diego. Three of her four matches in the SoCal event went to the deciding set.
Daria Kasatkina is set to make her WTA Finals debut after qualifying by the skin of her teeth. The 25-year-old, who was once the first alternate in the 2018 edition, has been the champion in San Jose and Granby in the month of August, alongside her semifinals at Roland-Garros and Rome.
However, she has landed in Texas after failing to win multiple matches in seven of her last nine tournaments. Her suspect run-up to Fort Worth includes a shocking first-round defeat to Harriet Dart at the US Open and an early exit from Guadalajara 1000 at the hands of Anna Kalinskaya.
The Russian did come on top the last time she faced off reigning world no. 1 players on hard courts, beating Angelique Kerber at 2017 Sydney and Caroline Wozniacki at 2018 St. Petersburg. She is also a good indoor player, being the champion in Moscow in 2018 and St. Petersburg in 2021.
Head-to-head: Iga Swiatek leads 4-1. She has already thoroughly destroyed Daria Kasatkina four times in the season, dropping only five games in their Australian Open meeting and three games each in their clashes in Dubai, Doha and Roland-Garros. The Pole remains the resounding favorite.
